Introduction.
The utility companies see roads as vital
corridors for telecommunications, power and water.
They have a statutory right to place their
apparatus under, along side and across public roads.
Privatisation, de-regulation and competition has
seen an influx of new utility companies and their contractors with a huge
investment in new underground plant.
There are currently approximately 40,000
excavations and reinstatements carried out in Northern Ireland every year
across the four Roads Service Divisions.
